Your Mission: Purpose of the Job

You will be responsible for executing complex application development and maintenance projects. Your primary mission is to provide innovative software solutions that address critical challenges in government service delivery. This senior role involves guiding and executing the entire software development lifecycle, from design and development to the execution of sophisticated ICT services and products.

Key Responsibility Areas

As an Advance Software Developer, you will be entrusted with a wide range of critical tasks, including:

  • Leading the development of clear and concise functional requirements.
  • Conducting feasibility and cost-benefit analyses to guide architectural choices.
  • Leading and executing complex software development and customization projects across multiple environments.
  • Developing and customizing applications by studying information needs, consulting with clients, and following SITA’s software development lifecycle.
  • Maintaining integrated IT software components using SITA’s approved development stack.
  • Leading comprehensive testing activities using SITA-approved tools and methods.
  • Managing the packaging and release of software components in line with government ICT standards.
  • Evaluating and modernizing existing applications.

Ideal Candidate: Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualification: A 3-4 year National Higher Diploma or National Degree (NQF Level 6) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a relevant equivalent field.

Preferred Qualification: A Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7 or 8) in the aforementioned fields will be a significant advantage.

Experience: This is a senior role requiring a substantial track record:

  • 7-10 years of experience in application/systems development, implementation, and maintenance.
  • At least 10 years specifically as a Senior Software Developer.
  • Extensive, hands-on experience in:
    • Mainframe, COBOL IMS, and Assembler programming.
    • Applications Technical solution design across multiple business domains.
    • Integration strategies and tools.
    • CA Harvest, Endevor, Dumpmaster, and SmartTest.
  • Advantageous: Experience in DevOps, Agile Methodologies, and applications modernization.

Required Technical Competencies

The successful candidate will possess extensive knowledge in:

  • Software development processes, programming languages, and implementation methodologies.
  • ICT Governance, Compliance, and IT Security standards.
  • Solution Integration strategies, Cloud Computing, and Enterprise Architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF).
  • Source control tools (Git, SVN), virtualization, and containerization.
  • DevOps practices (CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code) and Agile Methodologies (Scrum, XP, TDD).
  • Software testing techniques, tools, and team leadership.
