Are you an experienced engineering professional with a passion for maritime and leadership? The South African Navy’s Fleet Command Headquarters is seeking a highly skilled individual to fill a critical role within its Naval Engineering Services division in the historic and strategic naval port of Simon’s Town.

Position Details:

  • Reference Number: NAVAL/18/19/25/06
  • Salary: R551,493 – R631,056 per annum
  • Centre: Fleet Command HQ: Naval Engineering Services, Simon’s Town
  • Closing Date: 23 June 2025 at 16:00

Who Should Apply? Essential Requirements

This is a senior role requiring a specific set of qualifications and experience. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A National Diploma in Engineering or a relevant qualification.
  • A minimum of 6 years’ post-qualification technical experience.
  • Compulsory registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technician.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Critical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Proven experience in a Commercial shipyard or marine constructive design environment.
  • Essential experience in a Marine/Mechanical drawing office within a Marine Engineering or Naval Architectural discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of Class and IMO rules and regulations for surface vessels.
  • Proficiency in AutoCad / Caddie and the MS Office suite.
  • Strong ability to compile and present technical reports in English.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.

Advantageous: Knowledge of naval surface vessel rules, naval stores procurement practices, and refit procedures.

Your Key Responsibilities:

As the successful candidate, your duties will be both managerial and technical, including:

  • Supervising and leading the Constructive Section of the Naval Design Office.
  • Controlling the Constructive Acceptance and Trial functions.
  • Managing the constructive element of Support Vessel Engineering Change (EC) and upgrade services.
  • Overseeing constructive projects, tasks, and functions.
  • Managing and organizing the entire Constructive Section.

Important Notes for Applicants:

  • Only shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified copies of qualifications (not older than six months).
  • Applicants applying for more than one post must submit a separate form Z83 and CV for each.
  • The successful candidate will be subjected to Personnel Suitability Checks (criminal, citizenship, financial, qualification verification) and security clearance.
  • Appointment will be on a probationary period of twelve (12) months.
