The South African Navy is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Technician to join the Fleet Command Headquarters in the picturesque Simon’s Town. This is a critical role within the Naval Engineering Services division, offering a competitive government salary and the chance to contribute to vital national projects.

Who Should Apply?

This position is ideal for a qualified engineering professional with substantial post-qualification experience and a current registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).

Minimum Requirements:

  • A National Diploma in Engineering or a relevant qualification.
  • 6 years of post-qualification technical experience.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Compulsory Registration: Current registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technician.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proven experience in an Engineering Specification field.
  • Knowledge of planning logistic support analysis.
  • Knowledge of Specification Practices, Engineering and Support Baselines.
  • Proven experience in naval design work and developing logistic support plans.
  • Ability to read and understand specifications, technical drawings, and documents.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the MS Office suite.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Financial Management, Project Management, and Compliance.

Advantageous: Experience in coordinating and supervising engineering activities of subordinates and contractors.

Key Performance Areas (Duties):

  • Provide a comprehensive Technical Material Specification service.
  • Develop and manage Technical Material Specification Plans.
  • Perform technical material specification and verification services.
  • Act as a specialist in the development of Technical Material Specifications.
  • Manage Technical Material Specification Personnel.

  • The Z83 form must be originally signed and dated and accompanied by a detailed CV.
