About the Role

The South African Navy, Fleet Command, is seeking a highly skilled and qualified Senior Engineering Technician to join their Facilities Division in the iconic Simon’s Town. This is a critical role that involves ensuring the operational readiness and maintenance of naval infrastructure through expert civil engineering and strategic facility management.

Requirements

To be considered, you must possess the following:

  • A National Diploma in Engineering or a relevant qualification.
  • A compulsory current registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineering Technician.
  • 6 years of post-qualification technical experience.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • A qualification in the Civil Engineering field is a special requirement.

Skills and Knowledge Advantage:

  • Experience in Civil Engineering with Site and Contract Management.
  • Strong leadership, supervision, and project management skills.
  • Excellent planning, organising, and strategic business planning skills.
  • Proficiency in financial management, technical report writing, and computer-aided engineering applications.
  • Ability to analyse performance, formulate strategies, and manage change effectively.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be entrusted with a range of strategic and operational duties, including:

  • Compiling and controlling the Division’s Business Plan and Budget.
  • Setting performance measurement criteria and analysing feedback to evaluate against set objectives.
  • Instituting corrective actions and compiling annual performance evaluation reports.
  • Representing the Division at relevant strategic forums.
  • Applying project management principles to ensure the successful delivery of engineering projects.
  • Coaching and mentoring subordinates to build a strong technical team.
