Are you an experienced artisan leader with a strategic mindset? The South African Navy’s Fleet Command Headquarters is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Artisan Foreman to join its Technical Upkeep Section in the picturesque naval town of Simon’s Town. This is a pivotal role that combines deep technical expertise with project and contract management, offering a competitive salary and the chance to serve a critical function within the national defence force.

Remuneration Package

This permanent position offers an attractive annual salary between R480,261 and R547,635, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Requirements

To be considered for this prestigious role, candidates must meet the following non-negotiable requirements:

  • Qualifications: An appropriate Trade Test Certificate is essential.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience as an Artisan or Artisan Foreman.
  • License: A valid driver’s license.

Critical Skills and Knowledge:

  • Project, Supervisor, Contract, and Financial Management.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Public Service regulatory and financial framework.
  • Knowledge of legal compliance and technical report writing.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word).
  • Proven advanced ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal).
  • Advanced analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and change management skills.
  • Production process knowledge and excellent planning & organising skills.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be entrusted with a variety of critical duties, including:

  • Investigating and compiling detailed Statements of Work and Specifications.
  • Managing the availability of repairable equipment to SAN repair facilities or external contractors.
  • Verifying quotations and monitoring the progress of repairs.
  • Carrying out the formal acceptance of repaired equipment and ensuring its return to the correct unit or vessel.
  • Performing Class management and mechanical equipment management duties for refits, Docking and Essential Defects (DEDs), and Annual Maintenance Periods (AMPs).
  • Verifying authority documentation and Armscor Dockyard store requests.
