About the Role

The Department is seeking a dynamic and experienced IT professional to fill the role of Assistant Director for the IT Service Desk. The primary purpose of this position is to facilitate the delivery of a single point of contact for IT support and related services, ensuring formalized and efficient communication across the organization. This is a leadership role perfect for someone with a strong technical background and proven supervisory skills.

Remuneration

A competitive annual salary of R468,459 (Level 09) is offered for this permanent position.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Qualifications: An undergraduate qualification (NQF level 6) as recognized by SAQA in Information Technology, System Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant field.
  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an information technology environment, with at least two (2) years of proven work experience at a supervisory level.
  • Certifications: Relevant accreditation such as CRISC, CISA, ITIL, CITM, CISSP, or CGEIT is highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be entrusted with the following duties:

  • Act as the first point of contact, logging IT service requests promptly and accurately.
  • Assign service requests to technicians and administrators, ensuring timely follow-ups.
  • Escalate service requests that violate SLA metrics to the IT Service Manager.
  • Prepare comprehensive IT Helpdesk reports to track performance and issues.
  • Liaise with hardware service providers to log requests where necessary.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot a wide range of technical issues reported by end-users.
  • Respond to service desk tickets and inquiries promptly and professionally.
  • Assist with the setup, configuration, and maintenance of computer hardware and software.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all IT equipment and update records.
  • Manage user account creation, modification, and deactivation in line with security policies.
  • Collect user feedback to identify recurring issues and drive service improvement.
  • Monitor network performance and connectivity.
  • Manage projects, financial resources, and drive operational excellence and compliance.
