Are you a finance or business professional with a keen eye for detail and a passion for governance? The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to fill the critical role of Assistant Director for Loss Control and BAS System Control. This is a permanent appointment based in the heart of Pretoria.

Purpose of the Role

The core purpose of this position is to implement vital procedures and systems to prevent financial losses. This includes the management of irregular, fruitless, wasteful, and unauthorized expenditure, safeguarding the department’s assets and ensuring strict compliance with financial regulations.

Requirements

To be considered for this pivotal role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • An undergraduate qualification (NQF level 6) in Business, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field.
  • An NQF level 7 qualification will be a distinct advantage.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a commercial environment, with at least two (2) years at a supervisory level.

Key Competencies: Knowledge of Treasury Regulations, the PFMA, risk management, audit investigation, budgeting, and asset management. Strong skills in communication, planning, execution, and team management are essential.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be entrusted with a diverse range of responsibilities, including:

  • Managing and reporting on Irregular, Fruitless, and Wasteful Expenditure.
  • Overseeing damages and losses to departmental assets and hired vehicles.
  • Presenting cases to the Loss Control Committee and executing its recommendations.
  • Compiling monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the PFMA, financial statements, and various committees.
  • Maintaining suspense accounts for control purposes.
  • Serving as the departmental BAS System Controller.
  • Driving change, operational excellence, and ensuring overall compliance.
