Who Should Apply? The Requirements

This role demands a candidate with a strong academic foundation and relevant practical experience. The ideal applicant will meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A Grade 12 certificate (NQF Level 4) and a Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7) in management science, strategic studies, or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in a strategic management environment.
  • Essential Skills:
    • Expertise in interpreting regulatory frameworks and policies.
    • A sound understanding of strategy development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
    • Excellent research, analytical, and report writing skills (knowledge of Conventions of Service Writing is preferred).
    • Strong communication and project management abilities.
    • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • The ability to perform under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
    • Must be eligible for and comply with the Department of Defence’s security clearance process.

Your Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be at the heart of shaping the strategic direction of the Department of Defence. Your duties will include:

  • Assisting in the compilation of the DOD’s Strategising policy and updating functional guidelines.
  • Evaluating the external and internal environment to provide a strategic DOD mandate.
  • Developing and managing the DOD Business Strategy.
  • Coordinating and attending key strategising forums.
  • Conducting environmental scans to identify and manage strategic issues.
  • Researching best practices and benchmarking to assist in the development of departmental policies, strategies, and plans.
  • Providing assistance in the internal management of the sub-directorate.
