About the Role

The South African Navy’s Fleet Command Headquarters is seeking a highly skilled and registered Professional Engineer to take on a critical leadership role within its Naval Engineering Services division in the picturesque Simon’s Town. This is a senior position offering a competitive government salary and the chance to work on vital national defence projects.

Key Requirements

To be considered for this prestigious role, candidates must meet the following non-negotiable requirements:

  • An Engineering Degree (B Eng / BSC Eng) or relevant qualification.
  • A minimum of 6 years post-qualification experience as a Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Current compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Proven post-graduate experience in a marine design environment will be a significant advantage.

Essential Skills & Knowledge:

The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of technical and soft skills, including:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of engineering prescripts, policy documents, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in compiling EC Work Packages, Test and Trial procedures, and Integrated Logistic Support Plans (ILS).
  • Project management, financial management, and conflict management experience.
  • Ability to draft, read, and understand complex technical drawings and documents.
  • Proven ability to compile and present detailed technical reports in English.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will be central to the operational capability of the Navy’s fleet:

  • Generate Weapons Systems Engineering instructions, concept designs, and system designs.
  • Provide essential engineering acceptance services and establish design standards.
  • Ensure equipment standardization across naval weapons systems.
  • Provide project and task management services.
  • Manage and lead the Weapons Systems Engineering Sub-Section.
