About the Role

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the critical role of Deputy Director: Internal Control. This senior position is based at the National Office in Pretoria and is central to ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and accountability within the department.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading efforts to identify and manage unauthorized, irregular, and fruitless expenditure, providing essential oversight to safeguard public funds.

Key Requirements

To be considered for this prestigious role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Qualifications: An undergraduate qualification (NQF level 7) in Financial Management, Financial Accounting, Supply Chain Management, or a BCom in Finance. All qualifications must be recognized by SAQA.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience at a managerial (Assistant Director) level within an internal control environment.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Treasury Regulations, Financial Provisioning, and Administration procedures.
  • Skills: The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong competencies in:
    • Strategic thinking and decision making
    • Budgeting and financial management
    • Project management and planning
    • Communication and team leadership
    • Computer literacy

Key Performance Areas (Duties)

The appointed Deputy Director will be tasked with the following responsibilities:

  • Produce comprehensive management reports on unauthorized, irregular, and fruitless expenditure.
  • Conduct pre- and post-reviews of financial transactions to detect non-compliance with legislative frameworks.
  • Determine and confirm instances of irregular expenditure.
  • Verify recommendations from Legal Services and monitor their implementation.
  • Prepare accurate disclosure notes for the annual financial statements.
  • Effectively manage human, financial, and other resources within the unit.
