The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the pivotal role of Deputy Director: System Applications. This is a unique opportunity to oversee critical software development functions and drive digital transformation within a key national department.

Who Should Apply? The Key Requirements

To be considered for this senior role, you must meet the following criteria:

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • A National Diploma (NQF 6) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Business Information.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in software development (e.g., document management, BI & data warehouse, system integration).
  • Proven experience in a junior management role.

Critical Knowledge & Skills:

  • Expertise in relational database management systems and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Proficiency in programming languages like C#, ASP.Net, Magic 9.4, or XPA.
  • Strong background in strategic planning, budget management, project management, and policy development.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture frameworks like TOGAF is highly advantageous.
  • Experience with ESRI GIS or Magic Software development will be a significant advantage.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Note: Shortlisted candidates will undergo practical exercises and integrity assessments.

Your Key Responsibilities

As the Deputy Director, your duties will be central to the department’s technological efficacy:

  • Provide Strategic Oversight: Lead and manage the activities of the System Applications sub-directorate.
  • Drive Policy & Strategy: Develop, maintain, and implement policies and strategies for business and information systems.
  • Enable Service Delivery: Champion the use of technology as a key enabler for improved service delivery and organizational transformation.
  • Manage Resources: Oversee the directorate’s operations, including budget and programme management.
