The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Information Technology to lead its IT directorate. Key Requirements

To be considered for this prestigious role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Education and Experience:

  • A Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Business Information (NQF Level 7).
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience at a middle or senior management level in an Information Technology environment.
  • A Postgraduate Degree in Business Management will be a distinct advantage.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expert management knowledge in all IT areas, with a specific focus on IT Infrastructure.
  • Technical expertise in advanced strategic ICT Infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of change management, Public Service regulations, policy development, and strategic planning.
  • Proven skills in financial management, project management, and negotiation.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strategic and innovative thinking capabilities.

Important Notes for Applicants:

  • Mandatory Pre-Entry Programme: Shortlisted candidates must produce a Certificate of Completion for the SMS Pre-Entry Programme (Nyukela) offered by the National School of Government. This must be completed before appointment. Access the programme here: https://www.thensg.gov.za.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be entrusted with the following duties:

  • Oversee IT service delivery to promote continuous improvement in productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage system security mechanisms and ensure compliance with the IT regulatory framework.
  • Direct architecture and network configuration across the Department.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement IT policies, strategies, and infrastructure architecture.
  • Investigate and advise on the maintenance of existing technologies and the adoption of new technologies.
  • Provide overall management and leadership to the IT Directorate.
