This is a unique opportunity to lead a team at the heart of government communication, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and inclusivity across all official languages.

- Salary: R1,216,824 per annum (Level 13). This is an all-inclusive package, with 30% structurable to meet your needs.

Who We Are Looking For: Key Requirements
To be considered for this senior leadership position, you must meet the following criteria:
- A Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Journalism, Media Studies, Communication, Public Relations, or a related field.
- A mandatory Nyukela Pre-Entry Certificate for the Senior Management Service (SMS) from the National School of Government.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience at a middle/senior management level, with extensive expertise in writing, editing, and proofreading strategic documents.
- Proven ability to develop content for major government campaigns like the State of the Nation Address (SoNA).
- In-depth knowledge of key legislation, including the Constitution, Public Service Act, PFMA, and the Use of Official Languages Act.
- Exceptional leadership, financial management, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in at least three South African languages, two of which must be African languages.
- A valid driver’s license and the willingness to work overtime when required.
Your Mission: Key Duties and Responsibilities
As the Director, you will be entrusted with a wide range of critical functions:
- Strategic Editorial Leadership: Plan, oversee, and quality-control the content for major publications like the South Africa Yearbook and the Official Guide to South Africa.
- Content Development: Lead the creation and refinement of content for strategic documents (Annual Reports, Strategic Plans) and communication products (articles, newsletters, leaflets).
- Language Services Management: Supervise the translation of communication products into all official languages and oversee South African Sign Language interpreting services.
- Team & Resource Management: Manage staff performance, monitor budgets, and ensure the directorate meets its financial and operational targets.
- Governance & Compliance: Proactively manage risk, ensure compliance with audit requirements (AGSA and Internal Audit), and implement the GCIS Editorial Style Guide and Language Policy.
