Who Should Apply? Key Requirements

To be considered for this prestigious position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • A National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Health, or Environmental Management.
  • A Certificate in Mine Environmental Control.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ hands-on experience in Occupational Hygiene.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
  • Proficiency in hazard identification and risk management.
  • Strong report writing, negotiation, and computer skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills (planning, leading, organizing).
  • Ability to analyse complex situations and make fair, reasonable decisions.
  • Innovative thinking and a dynamic, calm personality.

Note: Shortlisted candidates will undergo practical exercises and integrity assessments.

Your Key Responsibilities

As an Inspector, your duties will be vital to ensuring safe mining practices across the region:

  • Conduct and report on comprehensive audits and inspections (underground, shaft, and surface) related to occupational hygiene exposures and stressors.
  • Investigate mine-related accidents, contraventions, and complaints, analysing trends to identify high-risk operations.
  • Serve on boards of examiners and provide expert input on mine closures, mining rights, and environmental management plans (EMPs).
  • Contribute to regional reports and the revision of mining regulations and guidelines.
  • Take necessary enforcement actions to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
