To be considered for this prestigious position, you must meet the following criteria:

Education and Experience:

  • A National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Health, or Environmental Management.
  • A Certificate in Mine Environmental Control.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of Occupational Hygiene.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Essential Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and its Regulations.
  • Proficiency in hazard identification and risk management principles.
  • Understanding of the Public Service Staff Code and DMPR Policies.

Critical Skills:

  • Strong analytical, report writing, and formulation skills.
  • Excellent management, planning, and organizational abilities.
  • Superior interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and language.
  • The ability to analyse complex situations, make fair decisions, and remain calm under pressure.

Note: Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo practical exercises and integrity assessments.

Your Key Responsibilities

As an Inspector of Occupational Hygiene, your duties will be vital to ensuring safe working conditions. You will be responsible for:

  • Conducting comprehensive audits and inspections (underground, shaft, and surface) to assess occupational hygiene exposures and stressors.
  • Taking necessary enforcement actions in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act.
  • Investigating and reporting on mine-related accidents, contraventions, and complaints.
  • Serving on boards of examiners and providing expert input on mine closure applications, prospecting rights, and environmental management plans (EMPs).
  • Contributing to regional reports and the revision of mining regulations and guidelines.
