Who Should Apply? Key Requirements

To be considered for this pivotal role, you will need to meet the following criteria:

Education and Experience:

  • A National Diploma (NQF 6) in Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Health, or Environmental Management.
  • A Certificate in Mine Environmental Control.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ proven experience in Occupational Hygiene.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act, its Regulations, and other relevant legislation.
  • Expertise in hazard identification and risk management.
  • Strong management skills: planning, leading, organizing, and controlling.
  • Excellent report writing, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and the ability to analyze complex situations to make fair decisions.
  • The candidate must be an innovative thinker with a dynamic personality, able to remain calm under pressure.

Note: Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo practical exercises and integrity assessments.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As an Inspector, your duties will be critical to maintaining safety standards in the mining industry:

  • Conduct and report on comprehensive audits and inspections (underground, shaft, and surface) relating to occupational hygiene exposures and stressors.
  • Take necessary enforcement actions to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Investigate and report on mine-related accidents, contraventions, and complaints, analyzing trends to identify high-risk operations.
  • Serve on boards of examiners and provide expert input on mine closures, prospecting rights, mining permits, and environmental management plans (EMPs).
  • Contribute to regional reports and the revision of mining regulations and guidelines.
