The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) is seeking three dedicated professionals to join their team as Inspectors of Mine Equipment in the Mpumalanga region. This is a senior role with a competitive salary and a critical mandate to ensure safety and adherence to regulations within the mining sector.

Who Should Apply? The Key Requirements

To be considered for this prestigious position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • A National Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (NQF Level 6).
  • A Certificate of Competency for Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Mines).
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in mine equipment.
  • A valid driver’s licence.

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Legal Proceedings, and hazard/risk management. You must also be proficient in:

  • Interpreting and applying complex legislation and policies.
  • Management, planning, and organisational skills.
  • Writing detailed and accurate reports.
  • Negotiation and maintaining good interpersonal relations.
  • Computer applications and innovative thinking.

Note: Shortlisted candidates will undergo practical exercises and integrity assessments.

Your Key Responsibilities

As an Inspector, your duties will be vital to mine safety and operational integrity:

  • Conduct and report on audits and inspections of underground, shaft, and surface plants, structures, and equipment (including trackless mining equipment and electrical distribution systems).
  • Take necessary enforcement actions where contraventions are found.
  • Investigate and report on mine-related accidents, complaints, and contraventions.
  • Test, license, and report on critical equipment like winders, lifts, chairlifts, and boilers.
  • Serve on boards of examiners and provide expert input on mining rights, permits, and environmental management plans (EMPs).
  • Contribute to regional reports and the revision of machinery regulations and standards.
