About the Role
The Department of Employment and Labour is seeking two dedicated and skilled individuals to join the Thohoyandou Labour Centre as Labour Inspectors. This is a critical role within the Inspection and Enforcement Services unit, focused on ensuring compliance with South Africa’s labour laws and protecting the rights of workers. If you have a passion for justice, a keen eye for detail, and a relevant legal or labour relations background, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Qualifications: A three-year relevant tertiary qualification at NQF Level 6 in Labour Relations, BCOM Law, or LLB.
- Experience: One (1) year of functional experience in Inspection and Enforcement Services.
- License: A valid driver’s license is essential.
- Knowledge: A thorough understanding of:
- Departmental policies and procedures
- Skills Development Act, Labour Relation Act (LRA), Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA)
- Skills Development Levies Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS)
- Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA)
- Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA), Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act (UICA)
- Employment Equity Act (EEA)
- Skills: Excellent facilitation, planning, organizing, computer literacy, interpersonal, conflict handling, negotiation, problem-solving, interviewing, listening, observation, presentation, innovation, analytical, and communication (verbal and written) skills.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be tasked with the following duties:
- Plan and conduct independent inspections to ensure compliance with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA).
- Execute independent investigations into reported cases of labour legislation contraventions and enforce compliance as necessary.
- Plan and conduct regular proactive (Blitz) inspections to monitor adherence to all labour laws.
- Independently conduct advocacy campaigns to educate employers and employees on labour legislation.
- Draft and maintain detailed inspection plans and reports, including the analysis and compilation of consolidated statistical reports for allocated cases.
