Who Should Apply? The Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • A Senior Certificate.
  • A 3-year recognized qualification (NQF Level 6, SAQA recognized) in Occupational Hygiene or Environmental Health.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Registration with a relevant professional body is advantageous but not compulsory.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, COIDA, UIA, and departmental procedures. Essential skills include:

  • Planning, organizing, and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Computer literacy
  • Facilitation, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Problem-solving and conflict handling

Your Key Responsibilities: The Duties

As an Occupational Hygiene Inspector, your role will be dynamic and impactful. Key duties include:

  • Planning and conducting independent inspections to ensure compliance with the OHS Act (85 of 1993) and its regulations.
  • Verifying employer registration with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) and Compensation Fund (COIDA).
  • Investigating and finalising workplace incidents and complaints, including appearing in court as a state witness.
  • Executing proactive inspections and compiling detailed reports on findings.
  • Planning and conducting advocacy campaigns to educate on labour legislation.
  • Contributing to regional inspection plans and compiling statistical reports.
