Who Should Apply? Key Requirements

To be considered for this senior role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Possess an LLB Degree.
  • Be admitted to practice as an Attorney or Advocate in the High Court of South Africa.
  • Have a minimum of eight (8) years of appropriate post-qualification legal experience.

Essential Knowledge: A thorough understanding of a wide range of legislation is required, including but not limited to:
The Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Treasury Regulations, Public Service Act, Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (PAJA), Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), Criminal Procedure Act, Law of Evidence, Constitutional Law, The Constitution of the RSA, Labour Relations Act (LRA), Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), Employment Equity Act (EEA), and all relevant departmental policies and procedures.

Critical Skills: The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong proficiency in:
Planning and organizing, communication (verbal and written), computer literacy, time management, report writing, liaison and diplomacy, policy development, networking, project management, negotiation, presentation, analytical thinking, and financial management.

Your Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be entrusted with the following duties:

  • Providing comprehensive legal advisory services to the Department.
  • Managing and overseeing all litigation involving the Department.
  • Administering access to information requests in accordance with PAIA.
  • Vetting and providing legal opinions on legislation, contracts, and departmental policies.
  • Managing the human and financial resources of the Chief Directorate effectively.
