Who Should Apply? Key Requirements

This senior role demands a unique blend of academic qualification, extensive experience, and a specific skill set.

Education & Experience:

  • A Degree (NQF 7) in Public Management, Business Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Monitoring and Evaluation, or a Social Science field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience at a middle or senior management level within a strategy and planning environment.

Critical Knowledge Areas:

  • Government mandates, priorities, and policies.
  • DMPR’s specific policies, functions, and projects.
  • Strategic planning, policy development, and project management.
  • Financial Management and National Economic and Development Strategy.

Essential Skills:

  • Superior communication (verbal and written), diplomatic, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent management, organisational, and coordination skills.
  • Creativity, innovation, and negotiation skills.

Mandatory Pre-Entry Requirement:

Note: Shortlisted candidates must produce a Certificate of completion for the SMS Pre-Entry Programme (Nyukela) offered by the National School of Government. This must be completed before an appointment can be made. Access the programme here: https://www.thensg.gov.za.

Your Key Responsibilities

As the successful candidate, you will be entrusted with the following duties:

  • Develop standard operating procedures for strategic management and planning to guide the approval of Strategic Plans (SP), Annual Performance Plans (APP), and Annual Operational Plans (AOP).
  • Facilitate the development, approval, and alignment of all strategic and performance plans with government guidelines and mandates.
  • Drive the development of the Department’s Service Delivery Improvement Plan (SDIP).
  • Ensure the Department’s strategic objectives are perfectly aligned with the priorities of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).
  • Provide expert guidance and support for strategic implementation across the Department.
  • Manage the entire Directorate effectively.
